Initially you can clean the teeth with a soft wet cloth and after one year, you can use toothbrush with soft bristles for cleaning the teeth. Use infant toothpaste when you start brushing your childs teeth with a toothbrush. You should start giving some solid foods with vegetables and fruits to develop healthy eating habits in your child.
Kids are more susceptive to tooth decay. As kids tend to eat whatever they get, you cannot control the sweet items they eat. When they eat sticky items like sweets and candies, they are more prone to tooth decay. If your kid does not get adequate fluoride, then also tooth decay problem will arise. You can find white spots on teeth at the initial stages. Later, early cavities will appear that are light brown in color and then the color of the teeth will become darker. Once you find these symptoms in your kid, you have to consult your dentist to take appropriate treatment. The treatment depends on the age and the medical history of your kid. If required, the dentist will fill the cavities with the tooth fillings.
It is always better to prevent dental problems before they arise. General dental hygiene will keep your mouth and teeth clean and hence you can minimize the bacterial attack. Brush the teeth of your kid twice a day with fluoridated toothpaste. While brushing, you have to clean the teeth, gums and tongue. After the age of two, you can floss the teeth of your kids. Diet is also important to maintain proper dental health. Ensure that you provide a balanced diet and avoid foods that contain high sugar. You can check with your dentist to make certain that your child gets the required fluoride to maintain the teeths health. It is wise to arrange for dental examinations and cleanings for your kid periodically so that dental problems can be identified at the initial stages and can be cured easily.
